How to pack an emergency bag for hunting

Hunting is a time honored event that many people still use for collecting food to feed their families. However, hunting can be a very dangerous sport to participate in. Before you head out to go hunting, make sure you have an emergency bag to take with you.

This is what you need:

  • First aid kit
  • Knife
  • Matches
  • GPS
  • Cell phone
  • Two way radio
  • Garbage bags

1. Start with a basic kit first aid. This kit should include bandages, antibiotic cream or spray, a heat pack, an ice pack, aspirin and a pair of bandage scissors. Besides the basic set of first aid supplies you will want to include additional items that make sense for your area and your medical history. For example, if you are diabetic, you may want to bring insulin and glucose tabs, and if you are asthmatic, bring your inhaler. If you happen to be allergic to bee and insect stings, do not forget your pen adrenaline or antihistamine if you are stung while in the back country. Finally, if you’re hunting in an area that has poisonous snakes, you’ll want to bring compression bandages with you.

2. Do not forget the ways of communication. Bring a cell phone or two-way radio with you so that you can keep in touch with other members of your hunting party or so that you can call for help if you get into trouble. A GPS tracking device can also be helpful, especially if you get lost.

3. Pack what you need at least one night in your emergency kit in case you get stuck in the woods. You will need a knife, a container of waterproof matches and plastic garbage bags. Knife can be used to gather tinder to start a fire and help you build a shelter, the games will help you build a fire and garbage bags can be used as a poncho, to collect water for to stuff a mattress or use as a solar blanket to keep warm.
